Kirby Seeks Court Order Against ISAF Plaques and Sail Numbers

posted Jun 21, 2013, 9:17 AM by Kirby Torch   [ updated Jun 21, 2013, 9:31 AM ]

Kirby has asked the Connecticut Federal Court to issue a prejudgment remedy ("PJR") against Defendants ISAF and ILCA.  If granted, the PJR would prevent ISAF and ILCA from selling ISAF plaques and sail numbers for Kirby Sailboats without authorization of Bruce Kirby.  Laser Performance has been terminated as an authorized builder of the Kirby Sailboat.  Copies the pertinent court papers are below.

Kirby Torch Class Membership Could Defeat ILCA Rule Change

posted Jun 18, 2013, 8:23 AM by Kirby Torch

The Kirby Torch Class now has enough members to have defeated ILCA's Fundamental Rule Change.  It was perhaps not widely understood at the time of the vote but the Rule Change, pushed through by ILCA and then recently approved by ISAF, attempted to eliminate the requirement that builders of the Laser must have an agreement with designer Bruce Kirby.  This violates the 1983 Agreement which established the Laser as an International Class, the basis on which ISAF plaques are issued to builders of the Laser, and on which the Laser was chosen as equipment for use in the Olympics.

The Kirby Torch class preserves the original basis on which the Kirby Sailboat obtained international status from ISAF.

Kirby Torch Class Constitution

posted Jun 12, 2013, 8:42 AM by Kirby Torch

The Torch builders continue to scale up production and arrange for supply of Torch hardware, blades, spars and sails.

In the meanwhile, we have been at hard at work designing a class association intended to be run by sailors for sailors.  We have tried in our proposed Constitution to provide representation for sailors at all levels, all ages and all parts of the world.  We have also tried to make the organization sustainable by blending professional management in an appropriate proportion with sailor representation that provides continuity but requires for turnover in an orderly manner.

Members of the Kirby Torch class have just received a copy of the draft Constitution by email.  We have asked for their feedback before we finalize the class structure.
